Digging in on Mallee Country

When freshwater ecologist and slow food advocate Deb Bogenhuber witnessed Mildura's agricultural land being overwhelmed by relentless dust storms in 2019-2020, she wanted to leave. Instead, Deb and her community began to respond to the problem of food sovereignty and water scarcity, while giving landless farmers like Jocelyn Majambere a place to grow and belong. [more]

Those who experience racism and discrimination have more hurdles to overcome in order to better prepare for changes to climate - but are also more resourceful and have knowledge of how live in challenging conditions. The small town of Elphinstone faces the road and has its back to the creek - and let it become overrun with invasive species. Desperately seeking snow gums in Macedon

The Australian snow gum is a symbol of resilience - yet it’s also fragile, vulnerable to climate impacts, and this is driving snow gums towards extinction in some areas. Tanya Loos is a field naturalist and biodiversity project officer for local council. She walks us through a project to assess the health of snow gums in the Macedon Ranges Shire. [more]

 

Change on Djaara Country

Around the world, lands managed by First Nations people is healthier and more resilient to the impacts of climate change than lands managed by Western, global enterprises and practices. The Djaara Clans Aboriginal Corporation in central Victoria has recently developed a climate change strategy to guide the whole community towards a safer future. [more]
