Significant Roadside Area

Stepping through a crack in the fabric of the universe, where the past and the future collide, Kyla Brettle unravels the significance of a small patch of bush near her home in Barkers Creek.

Guided by her children, an ecologist, a landcare volunteer and a local First Nation's Elder, Kyla stumbles along the creek edge to look at connections between people and place and how the different ways we see an environment become manifest in the world around us.

Through multiple voices, binaural recordings and original music, this tiny reserve in Barkers Creek emerges as a metaphor for the natural world, and the piece an exploration of our relationship with the planet and need to embrace our dependance on natural systems and actively heal the damage we have caused.
